Dividing the Control

RULE FOUR

In an effort to figure out how to slash and spread a dart to create a ruching effect, yet another vintage book comes to the rescue. This is also beneficial to creating shirring or smocking.

Several darts may be used instead of a single dart to produce more design interest without changing fit of a garment providing darts are so placed as to replace basic control dart.
...
If lines for slashing are kept 1 inch from neckline and armscye, a smoother fit will result around those areas in the finished garment. Plan muslin for 2 inches of shirring. Use needle and thread.

Sometimes it takes someone to tell you that it is OK before it really is OK when really is was OK all along. Sheesh.
Whatever I said at least I know what I mean. Maybe I need more coffee. LOL
