Pant shape study

Pin the tail on the pant shape.

Here are three recommended outfits for my figure type, the hourglass.

I have major issues with outfit #1 since that is exactly the silhouette I want to avoid. The pants are so wrong with the little pleats in front and slightly tapered legs. If I wore this ensemble it would be a walking diet plan since I would hurk everytime I passed a mirror.

#2 is better but still reminds me I'm a nearly 40-something mother. I'm not ready to look matronly. The slightly longer hem of the top is part of the problem although I just realized the pant is exactly the same as outfit #1 except in black. blech. I'm not so sure the top is supposed to be longer, just in a different color. Hey, they ARE really tricky ... that's the same exact same outfit but different colors! Faked me out for a minute there.

Finally, outfit #3 is looking okay. I think those pants are ponte knit in a palazzo cut. I'm going to look for a pattern to replicate this pant but will probably use a fluid woven. I like the shape of the leg.

Isn't virtual window shopping fun?

Now to decide on a color palette. There sure is a lot of green here. I found these palettes in my Autumn colors folder. I decided to mishmash colors from both seasons to create my own season. Auting? Sprutumn?

  • Leah, if you get a chance, take a look at the book called Closet Smarts. It shows real women in various pants, tops, jackets and dresses (?). My copy is loaned out right this minute, but I've started consult it everytime....

  • I'm an hour glass too, and would never wear pants (anymore) that have tapered legs, you're very right not to choose them. The last one would be great!

  • Hey there girlie, those first two are horrid. Love the last one though. Also love the Auting color palette (think of Dear Katharine in her multitude of Green Tops. She always looks fab.

  • I am a Sprutumn, too. Window 3 I think would be the better look.
